Welcome to the website of the IRISH INSTITUTE OF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT (IITD)

The Irish Institute of Training & Development is the professional body representing members involved in or concerned with human resource training and development in Ireland.  Members work in all sectors - business, industry, consultancy, voluntary, public sector, education and the community.

Founded in 1969, the Institute's members are organised through a National Council and a number of regional networks.  IITD's head office is at Sycamore House, Millennium Business Park, Naas, Co Kildare

Training & Development Qualifications

At this time of the year, you may be considering your CPD options for the Autumn and Winter. IITD continues to engage in direct provision and collaborative efforts with other providers in relation to a range of accredited programmes for training and development practitioners for Autumn and Winter 2009.

1. IITD Trainer Skills Certificate Programme 
(FETAC Level 6 Train the Trainer Component Award)
The Trainer Skills Certificate programme helps companies to develop a pool of personnel qualified to deliver quality training as required. It is specifically designed to help companies to utilise the existing knowledge and skills of their employees in the development of the company, thereby achieving maximum efficiency. Participants on this course will gain practical experience and recognised certification as trainers.

2. IITD Certificate in Training & Development 
(FETAC Level 6 - 3 Component Awards) FAS National Register of Trainer's Standard
The overall aim of the programme is to enable participants to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake training activities. The programme encompasses the development of competences that will enable students to identify and assess training needs, and to develop, plan, organise, deliver and evaluate relevant training activities. In addition, it incorporates the enhancement of a range of interpersonal skills pertinent to those working in the field of training and development.

3. BA Training & Development  
(HETAC Level 7)
The programme firstly aims to develop skills and knowledge in the key specialist training and development areas such as needs analysis, design and delivery of training and management development.
Secondly, the programme aims to equip learners with knowledge of the business context of training and development.The programme also gives learners a wider appreciation of how training fits into the overall business and how it is an important element of organisation strategy.
Finally, the programme aims to help learners acquire the diagnostic, planning and communication skills they often require in their roles as internal or external consultants and business partners.
Exemptions for IITD Certificate in Training & Development Graduates
We are delighted to announce that all participants who have undertaken the IITD Certificate in Training & Development since January 2008 are now entitled to a greater number of exemptions on the BA in Training & Development. Please click HERE for further information.

4. Higher Diploma in Learning, Development & Workbased Training (Cork 2009 Intake)
The Higher Diploma in Learning, Development and Work-Based Training is offered by UCC in collaboration with the IITD. It is intended to provide professional training for persons who have management/supervisory responsibility for training and development in Production, Engineering, Marketing and other related disciplines. The programme is designed on a module basis to meet the needs of working professionals, and has been approved by the Irish Institute of Training and Development to allow holders of the Higher Diploma gain graduate membership of the Institute.

5. MA Learning & Development Consultancy (Dublin & Cork 2009 Intake) 
The MA Learning & Development Consultancy is in Year 1 of a two-year programme at University College Cork. The programme is progressing very well with positive module feedback from students on the programme. The aim of the MA is to produce organisational learning and development specialists who operate from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
The broad aims of this programme include equipping those working in/or progressing to learning and development consulting roles with the necessary theoretical, professional and practical skills and to develop cooperative learning and dissemination skills. The skills acquired will benefit students and their organisations. UCC intends to offer the programme in Cork in the next academic cycle in 2009/2010.
We are delighted to announce that the programme will be offered by UCC in Tallaght IT in the Autumn and would welcome expressions of interest from all interested parties.
